2.6. How to Restart and Shutdown in Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 provides a few options for restarting, shutting down, etc.

From the Desktop

  1. Move the mouse cursor to either of the right side corners and the Charms appear:
  2. Click the Gear icon (Settings):
  3. On the Settings pane, click the Power icon:
  4. In the pop-up menu, select Restart, Shut down or Sleep:


Start Button

  1. Find the Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen:
  2. Right-click the Start button and click on Shut down or sign out:
  3. Choose Restart, Shut down, Sleep or Sign out


From the Lock Screen or Sign-On Screen

  1. Look for the Power icon
  2. Click on the Power icon for Restart, Shut down and Sleep
